Birdwatching for Beginners with Columbus Audubon

I meet with a group of novice bird enthusiasts and introduce them to the world of birding with the goal of helping them learn how to identify birds on their own. I put my own personal spin on leading bird walks by taking a fun inquiry approach. Bird walk participants are treated as team mates and are encouraged to help find birds then describe each bird based on their morphology, habitat, sound, and behavior. I guide participants to use descriptive terminology, point out important or fun bird facts, and help participants know when they are on the right track. This approach works for a wide range of ages and skill levels because it allows more experienced participants to practice sharing knowledge with novice participants. Birdwatching for Beginners is a weekly bird hike, I volunteer about once a month.
