Buckle Up with Brutus- Car Seat Check Event

The Injury Biomechanics Research Center hosts a child car seat check event every autumn. The event is organized in collaboration with Columbus Public Health and Safe Kids. Roughly 20-30 certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from the local community dedicate their time to performing safety checks on child car seats. Families from the community can pull their car into the event and a technician will work one-on-one with the family for approximately 30 minutes (or longer) to teach the parents and caregivers the safest way to install their child seat. We also receive a grant from Buckle Up for Life (Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Toyota) which provides 100 child seats to give away for free to families who are in need. Families whose children have outgrown their current seat, have damaged or expired seats, cannot afford a new seats, or expectant mothers who have not yet purchased a seat or cannot afford one can receive one for free at our event. During our three hour event, we typically give away approximately 70 of our car seats and perform safety checks on an additional 20 seats.
